Nau mai, haere mai, and welcome to the DSO's 2024 concert season

DSO’s exciting news is the appointment of eminent conductor James Judd as our Principal Guest Conductor. We greatly look forward to the two DSO concerts he will be conducting. Also conducting us are Australian conductor Umberto Clerici, and two new conductors: Matthias Bamert and Ingrid Martin.

Our soloists are some of New Zealand’s finest musicians: NZSO’s Concertmaster Vesa-Matti Leppänen, NZSO’s Principal French horn Samuel Jacobs, taonga pūoro exponent Alistair Fraser, soprano Rebecca Ryan, as well as four DSO Principal Players and City Choir Dunedin. Highlights will be performances by two overseas artists: opera superstar Jonathan Lemalu, and Australian guitarist Karin Schaupp.

Concert repertoire ranges from JS Bach to works by NZ composers Michael Norris and Rod Biss, and Rodrigo’s popular Concierto de Aranjuez.

We’ll also continue our educational projects, many in collaboration with the University’s School of the Performing Arts.

To our wonderful concert-goers, funders, donors, sponsors and volunteer supporters – thank you. We couldn’t do it without you.

All of us at the DSO look forward to enjoying another year of rich and rewarding orchestral experiences with you.

Kia manahau – we hope you enjoy the concerts!

Megan Bartlett, Chair of the DSO Board
Philippa Harris, General Manager
