Arlie McCormick - Vocal Director and Singer

The opportunity to be the Vocal Director for the ABBA concert with the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra is an extraordinary privilege.

It allows me to blend my passion for singing, vocal direction plus my love of blending voices and harmonies and how to interweave this with Tom Rainey’s stunning orchestral arrangements. I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to guide and mould these talented vocalists as they bring such beloved melodies of ABBA to life with the sensational DSO.

There is no doubt that ABBA’s music is timeless. With their infectious energy, fabulous musicality as well as songs with such relatable themes of love, heartbreak, and joy, their ability to connect with audiences of all ages is a true testament to not only their song writing but their storytelling. Also their ability to craft multiple catchy hooks and so many hits! ABBA is all about a ‘sound’ and those prolific and stunning layered harmonies that has made songs like Dancing Queen and Mamma Mia resonate through generations and still gets people singing along and dancing today.

Being part of such a wonderful concert as a vocalist will allow me to connect with both the performers and the audience, creating a shared experience that honours ABBA’s legacy while showcasing the incredible talent of the DSO and these talented singers. This opportunity is a dream come true, and I can’t wait to share these fabulous songs with Dunedin.
